Who else is jetting away somewhere soon for a cheeky little holiday? Have you started packing the whole of your bathroom cabinet yet? Yep, we've all been there! I remember my mother in law laughing hysterically when she saw I had practically bought the whole of Boots for a holiday one year (in my defence you never know when you might need that tube of Berocca...).

Knowing what to pack for your summer holiday can be a bit of a challenge, especially with a restricted baggage allowance. However, on my recent trip to Sri Lanka, I made a conscience effort to whittle down my HUGE supply of beauty products to just a few must-haves.

So, if you're off somewhere fabulous soon (and if you're not then you really should book something immediately!) then take a look my current holiday beauty essentials.

Becks and the Country: My holiday to Galle Sri Lanka

 Sun cream for body

I've had a love/hate relationship with sun cream for as long as I can remember. The feeling of sticky sweaty skin mixed with gritty sand is truly hideous. However, it is essential. Not only to protect you from skin cancer but also to protect you from turning into a wrinkly old prune. I've found it's worthwhile to buy a slightly more expensive product as they tend to be much more bearable.

I recommend:

Sun cream for face

Having lived in Dubai for the past 3 years and heading towards the dreaded 3-0 I've made sure sun cream is a part of my everyday daily skin care routine. I've become seriously paranoid about skin damage and truly believe prevention is better than cure. For those, like myself, who have tried to wing it by slapping on the same SPF on your face as your body, you'll know it causes you to turn into a shiny spotty mess! Therefore a separate SPF for your face is one of the most important purchases you'll ever make.

After Sun

Even the most thorough sun cream application will probably result in a few redder than red spots. Yep, I'm thinking under your boobs, the backs of your knees, and that squidgy bit between your armpit and arm (is there even a name for this?!). So, a soothing bottle of after sun is always a blessed relief (especially if you leave it in the fridge!).

My suggestions include:

  • Chamomile & Aloe Vera After Sun Lotion . If you're after a luxurious after sun then this is the one for you. The Organic essential oils of grape seed, sweet almond, and wheat germ will moisturise your skin, whilst the rose, aloe vera, chamomile and comfrey will cool and soothe. Plus, you won't need to use any perfume as its summery scent of orange flower, lavender, lemongrass, geranium, and spearmint is simply stunning.
  • Garnier Ambre Solaire After Sun Soothing Hydrating Lotion. This fast-absorbing, non-sticky, non-greasy, and budget friendly option does exactly what it says on the bottle.

Waterproof Mascara

I admire all of you who go completely bare-faced by the pool. But I have to wear mascara otherwise my eyes disappear into my head and people tell me I look 'peaky'. However, there is nothing worse than mascara running down your face, therefore, one that can withstand the heat, pool, sweat, and general holiday shenanigans is a must.

I absolutely love:

Galle Beach in Galle Sri Lanka

Days of endless sunshine, salty sea water, and liquid only in the form of Sangria and Pimms can leave your skin feeling and looking drier than the Sahara Desert which is why a super soothing face moisturiser is paramount.

The one I always rely on is:

Detangling Brush

Chlorine and sea water can turn your hair into a mass of dreadlocks Bob Marley would be proud of. So rather than spending your precious holiday hours un-matting your mane, you'll need a great detangling brush.

A great choice is:

  • Macadamia No Tangle Brush Green. This amazing brush has a unique “flex bristle” design that gently diffuses tangles and knots, and painlessly and safely detangles your hair. The remarkable bristles eliminate pulling, split-ends and breakage.

Tinted Moisturiser

I can never be bothered to do my whole makeup routine in the evenings but I still like a little coverage. Something to make me look together but with minimal effort. Which is where a great tinted moisturiser comes in.

Make sure you pick up:

  • NARS tinted moisturiser SPF 30 . This gives a beautiful, moist glow with neither shine nor grease, and has an unusually high SPF for a non-suncare product. Just blend with your fingertips and you've got a great base in seconds.

Bright Lipstick

A bold lip never fails to be the perfect complement to an otherwise relaxed and simple holiday look. Adding a pop of colour ties in your overall look and helps to emphasise a tan! I always pack a bright pink as it's a great all round summer colour.

My favourites include.

Summer scent

Trade your usual heavier everyday perfume for one that screams zingy citrus fruits and coconutty, creamy cocktails. Here are a couple of scents to have you smelling fresh this summer.

  • Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess . A sensuous, sun-drenched blend of Bergamot, warm Amber, Tiare Flower and Vanilla combined with delicious creamy coconut
  • Tom Ford Mandarino Di Almafi . With notes of citrus fruit, mint, thyme and wildflowers, you'll be transported to the Amalfi Coast in seconds.

Have a lovely holiday full of sun, sea, and r&r!
